Who made this

My notes app became a graveyard of ideas.

One person makes ideaboxd. It exists because of the gap between having an idea and doing something with it, and because I spent years falling into that gap myself.

The note this came from

another idea dumped in notes tonight. scrolled up and there are dozens of these. they are all still sitting there, not one of them went anywhere. half of them i cannot even remember why they mattered.

Ideas arrive all day: a product, a feature, a business, something I want to build. Like most people I put them straight into my Notes app so I would not forget them. That part worked. That part was the problem.

The notes turned into a graveyard. I was capturing everything and acting on almost none of it, because acting on an idea is a completely separate job from writing it down. Weeks later I would find the sentence and not the reason: why it mattered, what I had meant to do next.

So I started pasting ideas into ChatGPT to develop them further. The answers came back structured, and something else came with them. The further the AI took an idea, the further it drifted from the thought I actually had.

Capturing ideas was never broken. The step from a raw thought to something you can act on was.

Notes preserved the thought and never moved it. AI moved it and could change where it was going. I wanted the thing in between: something that remembers where an idea came from, keeps the original thought at its centre, and helps you turn it into a real plan one step at a time.

That is when ideaboxd stopped being another line in my notes and became the thing I wanted to build.

What it decided

Every rule in the app comes out of that.

Three decisions I did not design from a spec, because I already knew what it costs to get them wrong.

Your note is never rewritten

The words you typed stay exactly as you typed them, however far the plan travels from them. Losing the original was how ideas died in my notes app, so nothing in ideaboxd is allowed to overwrite it.

You choose what is worth developing

You highlight the lines that matter and give them a type: goal, problem, risk, next step. The app never decides which part of your thinking was the point, because from the outside that is a guess.

AI assists, and only when asked

On the Refine step, on Pro, when you tap for it. It drafts answers to the questions your note left open and each one arrives as an ordinary note you can edit or throw away. It never runs on its own and never touches your original.

Where it is going

A place where a half-formed thought can grow up.

ideaboxd is not another notes app, not a task manager, and not an AI idea generator. It sits between those tools. You capture the thought exactly as it arrived, then develop it step by step: add context, challenge the assumptions, structure it into a plan, and decide whether it is actually worth pursuing.

The long-term aim is simple enough to say in one line. Turn the ideas people usually forget into ideas they can understand, validate and act on, without losing what made the idea theirs in the first place.
